Boise State University The mission of Boise State's Department of Art, as part of a Metropolitan Research University of Distinction, is to function as the state's primary emphasis program representing the visual arts. The visual arts comprise a diverse array of visual, conceptual, theoretical and methodological practices which result in (but are not limited to) museum and gallery exhibition; public and community art and engagement; professional design practices; art education; and the understanding, investigation and appreciation of art and visual culture as historical and contemporary phenomena. Art faculty provide leadership through creative and academic research; through teaching strategies which foster creative inquiry and critical thinking; and through service which affirms and broadens the influence of the visual arts in culture and society.
