    Distinct expressions of purity and strength emanate from the works of David James. He intriguingly combines contrasting forms and textures in stone and steel. A luminous, mirror-finished stainless steel ball almost disappears physically as it reflects the worlds around it, whether it be twinned with stone or incredibly gliding across a watery surface. An interactive experience ensues as people see themselves and change perspectives. Similarly, a void draw us into and through a work like a powerful magnet, stimulating introspection and contemplation. In contrast, is the dark force lodged within the deep Belfast black granite forms and their juxtaposition of rugged and smooth surfaces. James also creates works in cast glass and exhibits in Europe and North America. He is based in Sutton, Québec, Canada.

    David James creates sculptures cast in glass that are exhibited in museums and galleries across North America and in Europe.

    My initial focus is form. Once that emerges abstractly from the ‘ether’ or concretely from my personal experience and interests from nature to the stars, I integrate texture, size and finally colour to engage light in a fascinating interplay.

    Frequently present in my work is the juxtaposition of rugged textures and smooth surfaces. The combination challenges one to consider our preferences and their underpinnings. Voids draw us like a powerful magnet, stimulating introspection and contemplation.

    David James also creates large exterior sculptures in stone and steel. He is based in Sutton, Québec, Canada.
