ART HISTORY

The visual arts have occupied a central place in a Wellesley education since 1875. Located in the Jewett Art Center, the Art History program offers classes ranging from Ancient and Medieval studies to Modern Art, Architecture and Photography. Jewett Art Center houses classes in Art History lectures and seminars, as well as the Art Library and Visual Resource Center.

Faculty offices are located near the classrooms in Jewett Art Center.


STUDIO ART

The visual arts have occupied a central place in a Wellesley education since 1875. Located in the Jewett Art Center and Pendleton West, the Studio Art Department includes courses in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography & video, and digital media.

All drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and some painting courses are taught in Pendleton West classrooms. The Jewett Art Center houses classes in three main areas of Studio Art: Photography, Film and Video, and the new Media Arts lab.

Faculty offices are located near the classrooms.


INTERDEPARTMENTAL

Students interested in pursuing an interdepartment or independent major must propose their major in consultation with a faculty advisor. The following are basic templates for those designing an independent arts majors and list of required and suggested courses.

In general, majors are expected to elect at least 8 courses at the 200 level or higher, 2 must be at the 300 level, and 4 must be concentrated within a single department.
